Scholarship Information

West Virginia Golf Course Superintendents Association offers two scholarships, the David Quinn Memorial Scholarship and the William C. Campbell Schlorship. To apply for either scholarship download the applicable pdf below and submit by the due date.

David Quinn Memorial Scholarship

David Quinn was a Professor Emeritus at West Virginia University. David worked many years with the West Virginia Golf Course Superintendents Association. He served on the Board of Directors and held the role as moderator during the WVGCSA Turf Conference. David passed away August 11, 2001 and the WVGCSA wanted to honor him by adding his name to the non-turf scholarship award.

All applications will be screened and selected by the WVGCSA Board of Directors. The decision for successful applicants will rest solely with the Board of Directors and their decision will be final.

Applications must be received by May 15th of the applicable year to be considered for the fall semester and October 15th of the applicable year to be considered for the spring semester.

William C. Campbell Scholarship

Mr. William C. Campbell was one of the greatest amateur golfers to ever play the game. His winning record included the Mexican Amateur (1956), U.S. Amateur (1964), Ontario Amateur (1967), U.S. Senior Amateur (1979-1980), three West Virginia Opens and 15 West Virginia Amateur. He finished runner-up in the U.S. Open and British Amateur, and played in 37 U.S. Amateurs, 15 U.S. Opens and 18 Masters. He was a member of eight Walker Cup teams (Captain 1956) and is undefeated in eight singles matches.

As an ambassador and volunteer to the game, Mr. Campbell is the only American to serve as both President of the United States Golf Association and Captain of the Royal & Ancient Club of St. Andrews, the two primary governing bodies of golf for the world. In 2009, Mr. Campbell was inducted into the West Virginia Golf Hall of Fame as one of its inaugural members.
